The project CinderellaS
Cinderella's universality and timelessness make the tale unique. It has, just like the real world, an important cultural diversity. It explores feminine identity and thus every culture, be it traditions or daily life.
"Cinderellas" is a cultural project that will take a look at the world through an artistic point of view. The idea is to travel following the tales of Cinderella around the world and to find echoes of the tale in real life.
This trip will bring us to Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, to twelve different cultures that will all be representative of the diversity and values of the different tales of Cinderella. A true initiatory journey, this trip will be made alone, in order to get closer to women and understand the role of Cinderella.
Nowadays and in many cultures, women are far from being men's equals. To be able to life their own lives, women must face many difficulties and brake the barrier of social prejudice. Heroin or woman of the real world, women will be at the heart of the project. I will portrait women who, in their personal history have common points with Cinderella.
Working from the tale and the observation of daily life, the challenge of the project 'Cinderellas' will be to highlight the cultural diversity and femininity through artistic creations. Photography, performances and embroidery will be the three media used during the journey. This artistic work will raise in a poetic manner questions inherent to human nature such as femininity, time, rejection, relationship with one-another and seduction. Cinderella will be our guide between past and present, imaginary and daily life because "tales are not made to put children to sleep but to awaken man to its spiritual dimension" (Edgar Basey, tale teller).
This artistic project is a journey between myth and reality, and wants to bring an original and sensitive vision of the surrounding world. It will eventually become a series of exhibitions and a book.
